TO mark World Polio Day, students from Prince Henry’s High School and The De Montfort School, together with the Rotary Club of Evesham, planted 5,000 purple crocus bulbs in the Walled Gardens at Croome Court.
Hein van der Steen, President of the Rotary Club of Evesham, said: "The project makes students realise how different life was before the eradication of polio. Older people in Evesham will still know about the devastating impact that polio can have on children and we want it to be eradicated worldwide."
Purple is the colour of the dye placed on the little finger on the left hand of a child to show they have been immunised against polio, hence the name Purple4Polio.
“Chris and I are very excited to be taking part in this very worthwhile project and hope that it will help highlight the work done by Rotary to eradicate this awful disease,” said Karen Cronin, of The Walled Gardens at Croome.
