WORCESTER will celebrate Independent Venue Week on January 30 with a special concert held at The Marrs Bar.

A spokesman said: “This former dance studio, built in 1954, has hosted hundreds of acts and still remains a popular place for entertainment.

“The concert will be hosted by Steve Lamacq (BBC 6 Music) who comes to Worcester as part of his annual IVW tour, to show support to West Midlands promoters and music goers.”

Fergus Brazier of nth cave said: “The Marrs Bar has been our go-to local venue since the moment we were old enough to get in and it’s great to play here again for Independent Venue Week.

“It’s so good to see that people still care about music venues and supporting the new bands emerging from the area. Sœur and The Connor Maher Quartet were the first two bands we ever saw here so it’s an honour for us to be sharing the stage with them.”

Soeur will be the headliners, and they are described as “a dual-fronted three-piece making pop songs drenched in grunge-heavy noise, with math-rock seeping through the seams”.

The spokesman said: “Breaking hard-rock down to its simplest, most fundamental form, Sœur are a brutal, soulful assault on the senses.”

Worcestershire singer/songwriter Ian Passey (better known as The Humdrum Express) has been played more than 30 times by Steve Lamacq on BBC Radio 6 Music, and he added: “It’s so important to support independent venues, not just this week but as often as possible. This is only a celebration of grassroots creativity and performance, but also an appreciation of musical history. Long may it continue!”
