AN Indian restaurant that has closed appears to now be under new management and looks set to reopen within weeks.

Arishana, in Lower Wick, closed a few weeks ago, and rumours have been circulating among residents that new owners have taken over and are set to open their own Indian restaurant at the unit.

The closed shop, in Canada Way, currently has clouded windows and there appeared to be workmen inside yesterday. No one was answering Arishana’s phone number.

But on the Lower Wick Facebook Group, Grant Allison-Hinton said he was writing on behalf of the new owner.

“It will be re-opening in about two to three weeks under a new name, but it is remaining an Indian restaurant,” he said.

Paul Smith, owner of next door unit Sunrise Hair and Beauty, said he had heard the new owner was planning a big launch.

On the Facebook post, Claire Ditchburn, the owner of The Pet Corner added: “Met our new neighbours taking over the Indian restaurant. He’s got lots of ideas and seems a lovely chap. Looking forward to having new business neighbours.”

Arishana, which had a five star food hygiene rating given by the Food Standards Agency, has been owned in recent times by Pasha restaurant owner, former city councillor and magistrate Nurul Haque. Attempts to contact Mr Haque proved unsuccessful.

His son, Mohammed Haque, sometimes known as Sam, also previously ran the restaurant. However, earlier this month, the 33-year-old was given a community order by magistrates for the harassment of several women. A court heard on one occasion he called a woman after she rang to make a booking at the restaurant.
