YOUNGSTERS celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as characters from their favourite stories.

Pupils at primary and secondary schools, as well as teachers, embraced the 24th World Book Day last Thursday.

This year theme was Share a Story, with people encouraged to remember to spend 10 minutes a day reading and sharing tales, which can inspire children and make a crucial difference in their early years.

Emily Barone, from St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, said: “The children loved seeing each other in their costumes - ‘everyone looked so amazing’.

“They had lots of reading-related fun throughout the day.”

Meanwhile Rebecca Scully, executive headteacher at Abbey School said: “We love reading and loved talking about our favourite books and characters.

"The costumes were absolutely amazing."
