A CITY pub has closed its doors after the landlord moved on to a new county pub.

Landlord Ted Marshall has closed the Cap ‘N’ Gown and has moved on to run The New Inn in Shrawley.

The future of the watering hole is currently unclear, as the pub is listed as up for sale at a price of £285,000.

The pub closed on March 30, and its former staff wrote to regulars on the pub’s Facebook group saying: “We have now closed. We would like to thank everyone for their support and friendship over the last five years, without you we’d not have enjoyed our Cap ‘N’ Gown journey so much.

"We have made some amazing life long friends along the way.

"Please keep in touch - come see us at our new pubs. Ted Marshall and Jack Hundley are running the New Inn, a beautiful countryside pub. Hazel Davis, Tom Probert and Meg have gone over to the Garibaldi in St John’s.

"We all look forwards to seeing your friendly faces supporting our new ventures and can’t wait to make many more amazing memories with you all along the way. Much love the Cap Crew."

Wellwishers have been leaving comments on the post. Ed Winters said: “While I may live in the US I visited the Cap ‘N’ Gown several times on my two holidays in England.

"Always found everyone to be very friendly. Best of luck.”

Anouska Jeffery said: “Can’t believe it’s been five years. All the best Ted.”

And Garrington Jones added: “Good luck to you all.

"Every success with your new ventures. It was fun while it lasted - at least you did a better stint with that place than those before you took over.”

The Upper Tything pub came to national attention in 2016 when Mr Marshall kicked out a racist yob who abused Polish people at the bar.

At the time the landlord told the Worcester News: “It was blatantly racist - I’m calling on all landlords across the city to do the same, if we all did it would make a difference.”
