IT’S more that 30 years since the ‘Big O’, Roy Orbison passed away, but a show at Worcester’s Swan Theatre will help to keep his legend and his music alive.

A spokesman said: “Get ready for a night of solid gold 60s hits and 80s musical genius as Barry Steele and Friends take to the Swan Theatre’s stage

“Barry Steele is widely recognised as one of the world’s leading vocalists paying homage to the legendary Roy Orbison. Having recently made his West End debut at the Adelphi Theatre, he has stunned audiences across the globe with his uncanny similarity and ability to authentically revive the exquisite toe-tapping sound of this music giant.”

Having received a guitar from his father for his sixth birthday, by the age of seven Roy Orbison had already decided that music would be his life. Between 1960 and 1966, 22 of his singles reached the top 40 in the Billboard chart.

He has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and The Songwriters Hall of Fame, was ranked 37 in Rolling Stone magazine’s 100 Greatest Artists of All Time list, and appeared at number 13 in their 100 Greatest Singers of All Time list.

The spokesman added: “It’s perhaps little surprise that Barry wants to bring this superstar back to life; and so, once again, Barry will take to the stage to commemorate this legend in The Roy Orbison Story in concert.

“The show will also feature original material written but never sung by Roy Orbison, as well as chart busting hits originally made famous by the likes of Jerry Lee Lewis, Procol Harum, Del Shannon, ELO, Tom Petty, Chris Isaak, and The Spencer Davis Group.”

The date for the diary is Friday May 10.
