AS part of the build up to this year’s Canal Festival, a logo competition was launched with the winning design submitted by a creative 9 year old.

With the festival being all about community cohesion, Chloe Hesketh, from Cherry Orchard School came up with a bright and colourful depiction of the canal community including the canal itself and canal boats. Chloe will receive her prize at the festival which includes seeing her logo on the programme, advertising and a t-shirt.

The festival, which is due to take place in Lansdowne Park 5pm June 28 until 5pm June 30, is a free community festival designed to bring together the community and celebrate its diversity. Organisers are hopeful that they will see a repeat success of 2015 when it was last held. The event has a wide range of supporters, stall holders and performers. The festival is supporting local charities Worcester Foodbank and Aspie, a charity for adults with Asperger’s.

Ian Mackey, Project Manager and local resident said “We wanted to bring a bit of community spirit into the area and decided to utilise the success of the last one in 2015. It’s all about community cohesion and celebrating our diverse community and local environment. The canal is a great resource and we’re so lucky to live by it. We wanted to share it and make the most of the unique space.”

Live music and acts include, Skewwhiff headlining on Friday night. On Saturday there’s a range of acts from The Harcourt Players silent movie show, Ben Vickers and finishing with the Fireballs. For more information visit ccagworcester.com.
