A MAN has admitted possessing 208 images of extreme pornography involving a dog, and could face prison for the offence.

Philip Gardiner’s solicitor Christopher Hilton had hoped the case would be dealt with during the hearing at Worcester Magistrates Court on Thursday (July 18), however it was sent to the city’s crown court for sentencing on August 16 as judges there have the power to impose more severe sentences.

Gardiner, 55, of Christine Avenue, Rushwick, Worcester, was released on unconditional bail until August 16.

Prosecutor Nicola Ritchie said a similar case in 2012, involving a different defendant and just eight images, led to a four-month prison term.

Mr Hilton had argued that that defendant had “several significant” previous convictions, including grooming children, for which he had been jailed for three years.

While his client is of previous good character.
