MALVERN'S burgeoning high-tech industry has received a double boost this week.

LT Security, based on the Spring Lane trading estate, has been awarded a £30,000 grant to help develop its products.

And management software company Aspenify has opened up its new UK headquarters in the town's science park, creating up to 12 new jobs in the next couple of years.

Both firms received assistance from the Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP).

LT Security has developed a surveillance system, the STL Leviathan, which uses radar and cameras on a mobile tower and is expected to have applications including border protection.

The firm will use the grant, from the Midlands Engine Investment Fund, and BCRS Business Loans to invest further in research and development, and to recruit two new staff members.

Managing director David Beech said: “Securing a loan of £30,000 enabled us to research and install solar technology on our tower which means it is a practical solution in remote areas and is completely environmentally sustainable.

"It has also allowed us to employ young people and help them develop vital skills in electronics, engineering and business acumen."

The Worcestershire LEP provided office space for the firm, as well as discounts to foreign investors.

The firm's operations director Martin Hanney said: “We’re delighted to be able to launch our UK company covering national sales and services from Malvern, thanks to the support of Worcestershire LEP."

Gary Woodman, chief executive of Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership, said: “It’s a privilege to be able to welcome internationally-recognised businesses like Aspenify to Worcestershire. As a business, Aspenify represents everything our community stands for.

"By sharing expertise within the business community, we can develop best practice for now and future generation.

"We’re delighted that LT Security have received investment from the Midlands Engine Investment Fund.

"LT Security is a fantastic example of how businesses are able to draw on the support of the fund, helping them to create new jobs and strengthen the company’s capacity for research and development.”
