EVESHAM candidates have been gearing up for the election campaign.
The Prime Minister met the Queen at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday, marking the official start of the election period in the run-up to the December 12 poll.
As Parliament is dissolved, Nigel Huddleston is no longer MP for Mid Worcestershire. But he has indicated it will stand and fight again for the seat he has held since 2015.
Mr Huddleston tweeted: "We've had our last debate of this parliament and parliament will be dissolved.
"I will cease to be an MP and become a parliamentary candidate again. I look forward to seeing as many constituents as possible during the upcoming #GeneralElection2019 campaign."
Meanwhile Helen Russell has been announced as the Labour candidate to take on Nigel Huddleston. The Evesham resident will be known to many as a champion athlete, twice being named the Wychavon Sporting Hero for her sporting results and fundraising.
The new candidate said: “I am immensely honoured to stand as Labour's parliamentary candidate for Mid Worcestershire and proud to be the candidate where I live, work and train. I will be the candidate of the many; the Conservative Party promotes the interests of the wealthy few."
And Mid-Worcestershire Liberal Democrats have endorsed Margaret Rowley as their candidate. The Tibberton resident, a Wychavon District councillor, has been involved in various local campaigns including the bid to restore Droitwich’s canals and Lido.
“I am delighted to be the Liberal Democrat candidate for Mid-Worcestershire," the candidate said.
"We have more members than ever before and in June we beat both Labour and the Conservatives in a national election for the first time in 100 years."
