Rosalind Brotherton, headteacher at Flyford Flavell First School, has received an honorary degree in public services from the Open University.
Mrs Brotherton was presented the award at Symphony Hall in Birmingham last month and said she was accepting it on behalf of the many unsung heroes in the educational profession.
She said: "Governors, teachers, dinner ladies, teaching assistants – they all have one thing in common; wanting to serve and do the best for the children and families in their care.
"I’d like to thank the Open University for all the support and help that they give to people who dream of better futures but who wouldn’t get there without this fantastic organisation.”
