A RESIDENT says the beauty of an area will be ‘spoiled’ if the last two remaining trees are cut back drastically as planned.

Suzie Anderson was distressed when she received a letter informing her of two hornbeam trees which could be trimmed down to 11.5 feet.

Ms Anderson who lives in Warmstry Court, Worcester said in a letter to Worcester City Council: “Our home is our haven that should always be treasured.

“The sound of the wind blowing through the leaves is relaxing and wouldn’t be heard anymore if they were trimmed down to 11 and a half foot. It’s a fact that nature reduces stress and brings about well-being.

“If they trim the trees down, the views, the little birds, their sounds will be gone.”

“I pay £400 a month to live here at Warmstry Court and I expect to see and feel and hear my nature. Our nature.”

“These trees are the only ones we have in Warmstry Court, and the only ones we see from our windows.”

“The two trees we have, once had a third, a female tree, that used to live in the middle of these two beautiful trees.

“I came home from work to find the tree cut down. The only tree that blossomed every year and was stunning to see through the seasons.

“The female tree was cut down completely without any notification or permission. I cannot express how many tears I cried over losing the only tree that blossomed.”

A spokesman from Worcester City Council said: “An agent working on behalf of Sanctuary Housing has made an formal Section 211 Notification to the City Council for the pollarding of two trees at Warmstry Court.

“The trees are situated in a designated conservation area but are not currently subject to a Tree Protection Order.

“According to the applicant the work is necessary to reduce the potential for accidents and slippage. The Council is currently in the process of consulting with residents at Warmstry Court about the application”

“The Council will make a decision by mid-December as to whether a Tree Preservation Order should be made, which would prevent the proposed work.”

The consultation on the decision to pollard the trees runs until November 29. Residents can raise their concerns on the application on the Worcester City Council website or by post. The application code is 19/00842/CAN.
