A HEADTEACHER said he was delighted that his school was awarded with Secondary School of the Year.

The Bewdley School, in Stourport Road, Bewdley, was crowned winner at the Worcester News education awards in 2019.

Headteacher, Dave Hadley-Pryce said: “We were delighted with our award which celebrated our approach to building wider educational experience, and which we have shared proudly with our community.

“It has enabled us to push the boundaries of experience, including our Global Happiness conference attended by 10 schools last November. Follow ups include a student visit to Uganda and I shall be strengthening Middle East links with visits to Cairo, the West Bank and Gaza this spring."

Mr Hadley-Pryce added: “Our newly established Discovery Society will send a scientific expedition to the jungles and reefs of Dominica in the Caribbean next year, with these great opportunities bringing real vibrancy to our curriculum, particularly for our Sixth Form.”

The school was nominated three times last year for a Worcestershire Education Award after parents described the students as "polite, engaged and overwhelmingly happy."

A nomination said: "New uniform, a re-enforced focused energy and new buildings have secured Bewdley as one of the most innovative and forward-thinking schools in Worcestershire, with a focus on progress rather than definitive academic targets.”
