A WORCESTER school has been named a Silver Champion School in recognition of its continued support in offering Year 11 students the opportunity to take part in a personal and social development youth programme.

Stephen Powell, headteacher at Nunnery Wood High School was given the National Citizen Service (NCS) Programme award during Year 11 assembly at Nunnery Wood High School by Bryoni Bradshaw, NCS recruitment coordinator.

The award was achieved as a result of sixty-four Year 11 students signing up and completing the Summer programme in July 2019. NCS is a voluntary programme for 15-17 year olds, funded by the government to help youngsters take part in new experiences, gain new skills and confidence.

Debbie Gwynne, Careers and work experience co-ordinator said, “NCS is a fantastic opportunity for students to gain experience, meet new friends and develop skills outside of an education setting. Their participation in the four-week programme will be a valuable addition to their CV and application forms for College, Sixth form, Apprenticeships and Universities.”

Mr Powell said: “Nunnery is proud of the many students who have taken up the chance of working with the National Citizen Service over the past few years.

We are hoping for record recruitment numbers from our current Year 11.’

"The organisation’s ambitions and values are fully in line with Nunnery’s own vision for our students."

The award was presented on Tuesday, February 25.

Nunnery Wood High School was previously awarded a Bronze Champion School Award for the Year 11 cohort of 2017-2018.
