SIR – On Saturday, like many other people in Worcestershire, I helped in the Annual Spring Clean.

This involves teams of volunteers collecting litter from roadside verges and public places. I was allocated a short stretch of road on Ankerdine Hill in Martley Parish.

I filled three large sacks with old cans of beer and cider, plastic cartons and sweet wrappers.

Particularly unpleasant were the human faeces in a lay-by and cola bottles filled with what was probably urine.

Of course, the real rubbish are the people who throw this stuff out of their cars and vans and treat the countryside as their private toilet.
