LIFE during the coronavirus pandemic is tougher than during the Second World War, a 100-year-old says.

Glady Page, who has just celebrated her 100th birthday and lives at Springfield Rest Home in Malvern, said of the current crisis: “It beats the time during the war - it’s much harder to deal with today’s world, there’s no escape from each other.”

Glady led a full and active life until the age of 95, when she had a serious fall at her home.

She never quite recovered from her injuries and has been in care ever since.

A spokesman for Springfield Rest Home in Ranelagh Road said: “Staff have agreed to stay in the home for the next seven days to help protect our vulnerable, reducing the amount of staff coming and going.

“We are a dementia home and during these difficult times ahead, it’s for us to protect. residents.

“We have set up FaceTime with residents and their families to continue with life as normal as we possibly can.”
