Debutots has asked children to start writing to care home residents while lockdown prevents their usual classes together.

Up until the pandemic, Debutots had been holding some of its classes in care homes as part of a project called Joining Generations with Imagination.

Care home residents taking part said that the children visiting had made them feel alive again and made them feel young and so happy.

Debutots founder, Charlotte Salter, says: “During this time of uncertainty many of the care homes we visit have closed their doors indefinitely to visitors. So we have decided to encourage the children and their families to send a card, letter, picture or photo to help our friends in the care homes through what is undoubtedly a difficult time.

“As part of our intergenerational work in the community we are going to coordinate this project as we have the contact details and relationships with the settings and residents already, and can ensure we deal with it safely in appropriate batches to the correct residential home so they are not overwhelmed with post.”

With the restrictions on social interaction, Debutots has also had to look to new ways of maintaining its classes.

Charlotte adds: “In these unsettled times it is important that our little ones don’t feel the worries that we do. So, in order for all the children around the country to continue enjoying Debutots we have devised an online version of our weekly classes.

We are pleased to say that regardless of whether you are an existing customer or not we are rolling this out to parents of all children at home as well as nurseries and schools who are looking to provide online learning to their pupils.
