WRITING about the history of Worcester Cathedral was a nice break from writing about coronavirus, reminding me there is a normal world out there.

It was nice to write about the grandeur of the cathedral, the history seeped into every brick tells the history of not just the city, but our country itself.

From the Medieval figures like King John or Prince Arthur, to former Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin, it is impossible to study Worcester Cathedral and not feel history itself.

We should do all we can to protect cultural sites like the cathedral.

Historic landmarks are our best link to the past, our one clear connection to the generations who came before.

Lots was said at the time of the Notre Dame fire about whether it was worth the cost to repair, but I feel it is vital we maintain our links to the past.

That is not to say we should not also spend public money on important issues, but our history is linked to our culture, and by extension our very identity, so we should protect it whatever the cost.
