PARENT volunteers have set up a second-hand uniform shop for pupils, saying the financial savings are particularly needed at the moment.

The shop will open at Bishop Perowne CE College on Wednesday, August 12 to allow parents to buy what they need at a reduced cost.

Organised by the Bishop Perowne Friends Association, parents and carers of current students and students who will be joining Year 7 in September are invited to visit the shop, which will be held in the school theatre between 10am and 2pm.

Michael Simpson, from the Bishop Perowne Friends Association, said: “We all know how quickly children can grow out of their uniform and how often new shirts, blazers, skirts, PE kit, etc, need to be bought.

“The shop is there to allow parents and carers the opportunity to purchase what they need at a reduced cost, which is particularly relevant at the moment. We’re also encouraging any parents and carers who have pieces of uniform that are no longer needed to bring them along and donate them to the Bishop Perowne Friends Association to allow us to help more people.”

All items included in the sale will have been pre-washed and will be steam cleaned after being touched.

The volunteers say they will be asking all families to respect and adhere to the social distancing and general hygiene guidelines in place.

It means that there may be limits on the number of people in the theatre at any one time.

They also request anyone who brings items to donate ensures they are washed and clean.
