BROMSGROVE captain Mark Evenson wants his side to end a disappointing season in the Birmingham League Division One with two wins.

Despite Saturday’s defeat to relegation battling Leamington, the mid-table Boars only need a few points to ensure they cannot tumble several places into the drop zone.

It has been a frustrating season for Evenson, as Bromsgrove failed to build on a promising first half of the season as the runs dried up. Now they complete the season at third-placed Smethwick on Saturday and at home to Old Hill on September 14 (both noon starts).

Evenson said: “We’ve bowled and fielded well for 90 per cent of the season but we haven’t scored enough runs.

“The bottom order has done well and we’ve recovered from some poor starts but if you think 200 is a par score we’ve reached that figure too many times.

“But we’ve got two matches of the season left and it would be great if we could win both of those and get some momentum for the 2014 season.

“We’ve got a few things to work on over the winter to try and improve.”

Bromsgrove’s woes with the bat continued as they were edged out by Leamington.

The Boars had slipped to 77-5, before the away side staged a fight back.

George Rhodes (37) and Tom Underhill (40) top scored as Bromsgrove reached 199 all out.

Leamington looked in complete control and reached 131-1 when started losing wickets at regular intervals.

Alexie Kervezee (2-15) and Underhill (3-16) were in good form but the Warwickshire side edged to 205-8.

“We lost our top order very cheaply and while it was good to see the lower order guys get some runs again we can’t afford to keep doing this,” said the captain.”
