BROMSGROVE Sporting have been left devastated after midfielder Liam Spink suffered a “horrific” leg break last night, ruling him out for the season.

Spink was dealt the blow during Sporting’s home tie against Nuneaton Town in the Birmingham Senior Cup, which had to be cancelled 30 minutes from time.

The midfielder was taken to hospital by ambulance after breaking a bone in his leg and dislocating his ankle, and will undergo an operation this afternoon.

Sporting boss Paul Smith said: “It was a horrific injury and it has upset a lot of us.

“He is a great lad and we are devastated for him.

“There will be nothing for him this season. You can write this season off straight away. His aim is to try and get back to pre-season next year.

“They have sorted the dislocation last night and he is going down for an operation at 1.30pm today. We need to wait until then to see more.

“He was in a lot of pain yesterday. I stayed with him until the ambulance came.

“He is in better spirits this morning and I will be going to see him again this afternoon.

“It was a tackle between two players. It was nothing malicious. Liam got his foot stuck in the mud and unfortunately that’s when it happened.

“We just hope he can get back to it.”
