BROMSGROVE'S power pack pulled out all the stops to produce an excellent 27-12 triumph at Leicestershire side Lutterworth to remain right in the thick of Midland One West's promotion race.

A sluggish first half show was soon forgotten as Bromsgrove took the second half by storm to gradually grind down Lutterworth's resistence.

An early Richard Mahoney penalty put Bromsgrove into the lead before fifth-placed Lutterworth hit back with an unconverted try.

Bromsgrove responded before the break when hooker Jamie Atkin forced his way over for Mahoney to convert and put the Finstall Park side 10-5 in front at the break.

The second half was a different story as Bromsgrove's pack pounded Lutterworth's line.

Loose head prop Ethan Priest propelled himself over for a couple of tries while left wing Josh Holt also crossed to claimed the bonus point, Mahoney adding one more conversion to complete victory.

Lutterworth responded when they scored a converted try with the last move of the match.

Bromsgrove head coach Dan Protherough said: "Conditions were horrendous, but that suited us because the pack were able to keep possession and boss the game.

"We did really well to get four tries, considering the state of the pitch because it wasn't condusive to running rugby.

"We've been playing well since Christmas and all we can do is continue keeping the pressure on league leaders Dudley Kingswinford and Burton".

Bromsgrove entertain 11th placed Melbourne this Saturday when Protherough is able to select from a position of strength.
