BROMSGROVE’S Jake Clark took another championship point with a 15th place finish on the national circuit at Silverstone last weekend.

The 15-year-old was competing for Wilson Racing in the seventh round of the Hel Performance British Motostar Championship and came away with a 16th and 15th place, writes Jeremy Ryan.

The series organisers decided against using the full GP circuit in case there were problems with the weather and in light of what happened recently to the MotoGP event.

Clark used free practice to get to know the circuit, having never ridden it before, finishing the session in 18th overall.

The rain did fall during qualifying on Saturday but it was more drizzle rather than the continuous downpour of the MotoGP weekend. In the tricky conditions Clark did very well posting the tenth best time in the class.

The first race was 18 laps of the 1.6-mile national circuit. The rider in front of Clark didn’t get away well and this compromised his own start to the race. All he could do was watch a series of riders blasted pass on the grid and into the first corner.

Clark tried to make up ground but the gap was too big. He went on to cross the line in 16th spot.

Overnight, Clark went to walk the track with a teammate looking for tips to improve for race two. They also decided to change the tyres for the second race, opting for a softer compound.

He enjoyed the second race, battling with a number of riders and picked up another point for fifteenth at the line.

After the race he said: “I did quite well in the wet qualifying. I like riding in the wet and was hoping for a wet race.

“I got a terrible start to race one, I thought the rider in front had stalled. Although I would have liked to have been higher up in race two I enjoyed the battling with the other riders and it was good to get another point.”

Clark will be back in action next weekend as the penultimate round takes place at the Oulton Park circuit.
