BARNT Green can breath more easily this week as they moved within sight of securing their Birmingham League Premier Division status for another season.

Although their game with fellow strugglers Dorridge was finally abandoned, the Green managed to pick up a priceless 10 bonus points.

Put into bat, the Green reached an impressive 183 for six from a reduced 36 overs.

George Hargrave hit a half century while Warwickshire pair Ed Pollock with 33 and Matt Lamb 27 helped push the score along.

Dorridge's reply only lasted for six overs, by which stage they had been reduced to 23 for two when required to chase down 154 from 25 overs courtesy of the Duckworth Lewis System.

The result means the Green need just three more points from their final game at Walsall this Saturday to be mathematically safe.

Barnt Green skipper Andy Sutton admitted at being disappointed not to get the win but added: "To get 10 points out of an abandoned game isn't bad going. But if I was honest, I couldn't see Dorridge reaching their target.

"I was really impressed by the professionalism of the side as the attitude was first class.

"It isn't easy when you keep going on and off the field for rain and sometimes the concentration can drop a bit.

"We just need one more push now and for people to step up. We've now gone five games without defeat and I would like to make that six at Walsall and then take that momentum into next season.

"What is pleasing is that everyone has stepped up at some point of the season and it's important to me that we finish the season well.

"When things aren't going well, as a skipper you ask questions of yourself.

"The win over a very good Ombersley side gave us a great deal of confidence going forward and if the result against Wolverhampton had gone the other way, then we would be having a different conversation.

"Deep down, I always believed that we could get out of trouble.

"It doesn't matter to me whether we're in relegation trouble or not, I always want to win and that's why it's so important to me that we end the season with a win".
