REDDITCH lost interest in this season's RFU Junior Vase competition after crashing out at the first hurdle when eclipsed 32-15 by Clee Hill.

The contest began brightly for Redditch when fly-half Tom Saddington finished off a fine passing move to touchdown.

The impressive start was short-lived as Clee Hill came storming back, capitalising on a series of errors for their opening try and then driving over for a second.

A third converted try soon followed as Clee built a commanding 17-5 lead.

Redditch responded with some fine moves as Nathan Matthews, Josh Kearney, John Wormington and Jack Mertens all went close but Redditch just couldn't turn possession into points.

The second half finally brought some reward as Tom Saddington sent Nathan Matthews straight over under the posts.

Invigorated by this score Redditch continued to press and despite the loss of Will Ballion to a yellow card, pressed forward for a third try when Josh Kearney off-loaded for Tom Saddington to secure his second try.

But that was as good as it got for Redditch as Clee took advantage of the extra man to claim two more tries and then add another from a late rolling maul.

Redditch return to Midland League action this week with a local derby at home to Claverdon.
