REDDITCH United's recent revival was dealt an unexpected jolt when beaten 1-0 at home by bottom of the table Bedworth United.

Reds found themselves undone by a wonder goal from Alex Troke in a game they had previously dominated.

Bemused Reds boss Paul Smith was left scratching his head at half time and said: "We played really well. We've played much worse this season and won.

"I just couldn't get my head around it. We kept banging on the door all through the game but we just weren't good enough in front of goal.

"Obviously we've no devine right to win matches and goal scoring is an area where we need to improve and somewhere I'm looking to strengthen".

Smith admitted Reds had missed some sitters against Bedworth.

He confirmed: "We wasted two clear-cut chances. Richard Batchelor had a header from four yards out which he directed straight at the goalkeeper, who was completely stranded at the time.

"On another occasion, Ahmed Ali was unmarked with the goalkeeper at his mercy, but managed to side-foot the ball wide.

"Those missed chances change matches. Had they gone in, then it's a different game, but instead, it gave Bedworth the confidence to go forward and they go and score a 'worldie.

"I couldn't believe we were trailing at half time in a game where we'd been completely on top.

"They even went down to 10 men in the 71st minute and we still couldn't score.

"I don't think we would have scored if we had played all night!

Reds make the long distance trip to Lowestoft Town this Saturday which will require an 8.30am start.

Smith is hopeful of having a new striker on board and confirmed he had issued a number of seven days notices which would enable him to speak with players later in the week.

There is also better news concerning former Blues and Partick Thistle player Jack Storer.

He is due to receive the results from an MRI scan this week and Smith said: "It's looking a great deal more optimistic, Jack was at the game against Bedworth and it may be the injury isn't as bad as first thought".
