WARNDON Villages are set to move some youth teams to Worcestershire FA's planned Claines Lane base in a new partnership with the association.

Villages will train at and use the proposed county headquarters as well as continuing to play on their grass pitches at nearby Little Perdiswell.

Club chairman Kristian Askew said: “We are thrilled to have entered into a partnership with Worcestershire FA and The County Sports Ground project.

"It is a fantastic opportunity to provide our members with access to a brilliant facility and the club look forward to developing our relationship with the county football association."

The county FA want to use the site for the community and grassroots football as well as catering for West Midlands League men's side Worcester Raiders.

Martin Collier, football development manager at Worcestershire FA, said: “It’s a positive time for local football with planning permission granted for several new 3Gs in the county recently with one in Worcester, one in Malvern and the other in Evesham.

“I hope this shows we are working behind the scenes to help the grassroots game and provide top facilities and investment into the local area for local teams.

“Claines Lane will also be home to a number of other clubs in the local area that will benefit from these fantastic new facilities.

“We were very pleased to have had the planning permission granted before the Christmas break so we could progress with the application to ensure everything is in place before the end of the season.

"Although there are still some hurdles to overcome we are hopeful of this long-term ambition becoming a reality.”

Worcester City councillors unanimously backed the county FA’s application to transform Claines Lane at a planning meeting last month.

They want to build a new clubhouse with changing rooms and office space.

A 100-seater stand and floodlights are also set to be put up while a further grass pitch is due to be replaced by a floodlit artificial surface.

Worcestershire FA are in the process of purchasing the land off Worcestershire County Council with their headquarters near Droitwich up for sale.
