MANAGER John Snape says his attack-minded Worcester City side are “hungry” for goals ahead of Saturday’s Midland League Premier Division match against a resurgent South Normanton Athletic outfit at the Victoria Ground (3pm).

City overcame a first-half red card for Jordan Stoddart to net five times in an emphatic victory over Studley in the third round of the Midland League Cup on Tuesday.

Having made nine changes to the side for the midweek clash Snape admitted the clinical display had given him “food for thought” as he considers his selection.

And with striker Kyonn Evans, who pulled out in the warm-up at Studley, back available Snape said he would field a more offensive-looking team to tackle South Normanton.

“Kyonn had a tight neck so we decided it was best for him to sit it out,” Snape said.

“He has been able to train so he should be a goer.

“We need to win our home games and will hopefully have more of an offensive look to us but there will be changes.

“There are a few guys knocking on the door like Ethan Moran, Kyonn, James Lemon, Jordan Harrison, Jamal Lawrence and Bash (Aaron Basford) so it is looking good.

“Taking everything into account it was a great performance (against Studley).

“It has given me food for thought, definitely.”

But Snape said there were also fitness concerns over several players ahead of their league encounter.

“Fish (Tom Fishwick) picked up a rib injury and Josh (Willis) had a tight hamstring/abductor in the second half,” Snape said.

“(Joel) Caines slightly rolled his ankle in the first half but carried on so there are a few that might be in doubt but we will reassess them and see where we are.”

South Normanton are third from bottom but boosted their survival hopes with four wins in their past seven games including a 3-0 victory over leaders Ilkeston Town and a 5-1 thrashing of Highgate United.

Ninth-placed City were also held 0-0 at the Derbyshire outfit in October and failed to beat them in their two meetings last season.

“They have changed their manager and their results have definitely picked up recently,” Snape said.

“They were down there last season as well but got out (of trouble) and I expect them to do the same this season.

“We respect them but we are going into it positively after a week where we have been unbeaten and are definitely looking to gain all three points.

“The goals we scored on Tuesday night were outstanding and we are hungry for them so we will get at them.”
