BROMSGROVE Rugby Club bid to wrap up the Midlands One West title this Saturday when they make the short trip to local rivals Stourbridge Lions.

Two points would be sufficient to make sure of the crown – but the Boars will be leaving nothing to chance.

Head coach Dan Protherough has warned his players not to under estimate the situation and stressed: “We cannot afford to take our foot off the gas because I’m expecting a real battle on Saturday.

“Stourbridge Lions need a result and points themselves, but for a different reason as I still think they require another victory to make sure they secure their status at this level for another season.

“They will be treating this game like a cup final and will be determined to stop us. I don’t want us coming up short.

“We will prepare properly because I want to get this title over the line as quickly as possible”.

Bromsgrove won’t lack for support at Stourton Park as Protherough expects a big following and is anxious the occasion doesn’t turn into a big anti-climax.

He added: “Everyone at the club wants this over and done with so that we can start preparing for life in the National Midlands Division next season. But we cannot relax until the job is done. Then hopefully we can return to Finstall Park and celebrate in style”.

Apart from the unavailable Hugh Lockhart, the Boars should be at full strength for their trip to Stourbridge.

Protherough has also praised the spirit within the club this week and said: “It’s been great to see First XV players out supporting the seconds and vice-versa.

“Our player base has actually risen this season and we’re regularly putting four sides out on a Saturday comprising of firsts, seconds, thirds and veterans which is a really healthy situation for the club to be and it’s something we want to build upon."
