BROMSGROVE boss Brendan Kelly says he'll be working hard to improve his side's defending ahead the big kick-off.

Sporting beat Worcester City 3-2 at the Victoria Ground last Saturday thanks to goals from Rich Gregory, Shaquille McDonald and Kieran Westwood.

However, it is his side's defending that will now come under Kelly's spotlight with the new Southern League Central season just under two weeks away.

The boss is happy with the strikers at his disposal but confirmed he is looking to add another defender to the ranks.

He said: "I'm really pleased with the forward options we have. It's clear we have goals in this side.

"I have four out-and-out strikers with Rich Gregory, Kyle Perry, Shaquille McDonald and Cameron Peters but also other players that can play from deeper like Charlie Dowd, Will Shorrock, Robbie Thompson-Brown and John Pykett.

"Going forward isn't the issue, it's at the back that we need to improve.

"We need to be more resilient and cut out the individual errors. We are conceding far too many goals and it's something we will be working on in training and with the games we have left.

"I wouldn't rule out another few signings as well. Defence is one area I think we are a little short."

On the friendly win against Worcester, he added: "It was more minutes for the lads and we got the chance to work on a new shape as well.

"I thought we were better when we reverted back to our usual shape and went on to win the game in the end.

"It was a another good workout, which is the main thing. I was a little disappointed with the officiating to be honest as there were a few dangerous challenges going in and they weren't really dealt with.

"Fair play to Worcester, they were clearly up for it even though it was a friendly but I think the referee could have handled it better.

"I'm really pleased for Shaquille McDonald that he got his goal. He's had a bit of a niggle and has been frustrated with his game time but he did really well when he came on."

The Rouslers will continue their pre-season programme by hosting Cheltenham on Tuesday night before their final friendly fixture against AFC Dunstable this Saturday.
