LIVE: Worcester City v Highgate United

Our live feed has now finished.

  • FT: City 2 (Harrison 68, Adaggio 78) Highgate 2 (Antonio 2, Hendrie 17)
  • CITY came back from two down to draw 2-2 with a Highgate United side that had two players sin binned in the final 11 minutes.
  • Substitute Jordan Harrison scored one and laid on the other for ex-Gate striker Marco Adaggio in the second half after Edilson Antonio and Stuart Hendrie had give the visitors a healthy cushion.
  • Hendrie and Aaron Brown were given temporary dismissals for dissent by referee Matthew Bond after City had restored parity but a combination of snatched finishes and Highgate winding down the clock ended hopes of an eighth win in nine outings.
  • As frustrating as the result was, Highgate grafted for their point with City paying the price for first-half errors.
  • There had been openings at either end before Antonio’s second-minute strike, a firm finish from six yards following Isaac Jagroop’s cutback.
  • City gradually grew into the game, Chris Withington, Adaggio and Sean Brain pulling the trigger in a bright two-minute spell.
  • However, the home side’s Achilles heel was without the ball, failing to press quickly enough and when Craig Jones got caught slightly under a routine pump forward, Hendrie coolly lobbed the advancing Dan Jezeph from the edge of the box.
  • Jagroop’s flick-on was headed into Jezeph’s arms by Antonio in the 25th minute and matters got worse with Dan Okojie withdrawn due to a hamstring injury and Jezeph having to ask Jones to take goal-kicks while playing through the pain barrier.
  • Jezeph saved the day on the stroke of half-time, the busy Jagroop again dragging back for Seegu Sebbeh Nije to fire low back across goal only to be thwarted by the stopper’s stray leg.
  • City looked brighter after the break but truly went through the gears once they had tweaked the shape and introduced Harrison.
  • The pressure grew with Highgate looking solid until the 68th minute, Withington dispossessing Sebbeh Nije in the City half and finding Brain whose cross-field spray from the left was lashed in by Harrison from just inside the box.
  • Luke English had a fierce drive swatted over by keeper James Beeson and Adaggio’s effort was cleared from in front of the line by Sebbeh Nije with Withington clearing the bar on the rebound.
  • Harrison’s persistence despite being held up by two defenders created the leveller, firing in a low cross for Adaggio to convert at the near post to get the home crowd rocking, an atmosphere that became supercharged when Hendrie was dismissed for 10 minutes after giving too much advice to the referee’s assistant.
  • Highgate were clinging on with Liam Lockett teed up on the right of the box only to uncharacteristically trigger an air shot.
  • Former professional Brown then committed the cardinal sin of joining Hendrie on the sidelines having had too much to say.
  • Adaggio and Lockett both went close with Beeson booked for timewasting and Sebbeh Nije unsurprisingly suffering an injury that made him leave the pitch at hobbling pace before returning with a spring in his step seconds later.
  • The big chance came in added time, Adaggio left free at the near post to hit into Beeson’s gloves from six yards, while Luke Rowe was a whisker away from finding the corner six minutes past the 90.
