Alcester RFC 0 – 36 Berkswell and Balsall

It was a disappointing afternoon for Alcester RFC last Saturday as they failed to score any points against third placed Berkswell and Balsall in a 36-0 defeat at Kings Coughton.

The opposition applied early pressure which paid off after a series of scrums and short-range drives when their number eight crashed over and the extras were added.

His celebrations were short lived before the number eight found himself on the receiving end of a yellow card for persistent infringement and was forced to leave the pitch for ten minutes.

Berkswell kicked a successful penalty before capitalising on an Alcester mistake. The home side were careless with the ball, throwing it away in contact before Berkswell collected and scored their second try.

The Kenilworth side took a 15-0 lead into the break but not before they were penalised with another sin binning.

It was an even opening to the second half but it wasn’t long before Berkswell took the reins again scoring two more tries and earning themselves the bonus point.

Their ill discipline and high penalty count didn’t work in Alcester’s favour as they scored a final try to seal off a successful afternoon.
