A WORCESTERSHIRE County League cricketer could be banned for at least 10 matches after allegedly striking an opponent with a bat.

Police attended Cutnall Green Cricket Club after an incident involving one of the home players and Phillip Thomas, who captained visitors Harvington on the day. No arrests were made.

Green captain Matthew Harris declined to comment but league disciplinary chief Bernard Williams confirmed a panel would be adjudicating tomorrow evening (Wednesday, September 16).

Both declined to name the Cutnall Green player accused but Williams indicated the outcome of the hearing would be made public once a verdict is reached.

Physical assault is a level four offence, the highest grade, with “suspension for a minimum of 10 matches” the start point if the charge is proven according to the league's website

Pleading guilty, previous disciplinary records, whether the player is captain and conduct once it is made clear a report will be submitted are all taken into account.

A statement from West Mercia Police read: “We were called shortly after 4.15pm on Saturday, September 5 to reports that, during a cricket match in Cutnall Green, one player had assaulted another with a cricket bat.

"No medical attention was sought at the time and a community resolution was agreed.”
