Redditch United moved to the top of the Southern League Premier Central with a derby day victory over Bromsgrove Sporting writes Max Banner.

Former Rousler Aram Soleman headed home the game's only goal with 14 minutes of normal time remaining.

After an even start, Bromsgrove were dealt a hammer blow in the 16th minute when Mike McGrath brought down Tyrell Hamilton just outside the penalty area.

He was adjudged to have been the last man and Sporting's player-manager was given his marching orders - Hamilton hit the subsequent free-kick into the side netting.

Redditch skipper Reece Flanagan blazed an effort well over the bar from inside the box in the 32nd minute, whilst Sporting stopper Ollie Taylor had to be alert to a drive from Soleman later in the half.

The first half may have been somewhat sparse on clear cut chances but the early stages of the second were rather lively, as Bromsgrove's Billy Shaw struck a shot well off target before Jordan Cranston had a strike from just outside the box that was well saved by Taylor.

Reece Flanagan missed the target with an effort in the 49th minute and, four minutes later, Conor Tee curled a shot narrowly wide after being played in by striker Prince Henry on his return to Sporting.

The 74th minute saw Ryan Wollacott have a header cleared off the line from close range but the home side's luck would improve two minutes later, as Soleman was able to guide a Flanagan corner into the net.

Wollacott had another headed chance in additional time but he was unable to beat Taylor with it, whilst the visitors almost bagged an equaliser via a goalmouth scramble from a corner in the final moments but they couldn't find a way to get the ball in.
