RUBERY LADIES’ quest for an elusive first league win for continues, as they went down 7-0 to title chasing Kingshurst in the Birmingham County Womens League Premier Division on Sunday.

Josie McDonagh put the visitors ahead after five minutes, but from then on they were continually frustrated by Rubery’s offside trap and superb goalkeeping from Zoe Gillard.

Kingshurst had to wait until the 45th minute before increasing their lead, Christina Poole and McDonagh scoring two late goals.

After the interval Rubery were soon 4-0 down, Jemma Canning latched onto a right wing cross to head home from close range.

By now Kingshurst had adjusted their tactics and were beating the offside trap at will and in the 57th and 58th minutes both Poole and Wadena Lambert were sent one on one with Gillard.

Although the Rubery keeper managed to get a hand to both shots, the ball crossed the line for goals five and six.

Despite the scoreline the home team never gave up the cause, Kylie Owen almost pulled one back on 79 minutes but saw her shot go wide of the post.

For the final ten minutes, Hayley Roberts swapped jerseys with Gillard in the Rubery goal and made one excellent save, but could do nothing to stop Poole grabbing her hat-yrick and Kinghurst’s seventh to wrap up the game.
