HEAD coach Rory Duncan admitted he would be interested in taking “a closer look” at former Worcester Warriors prop Matt Mullan.

But Duncan insisted he had not held any discussions with boss Alan Solomons over the possibility of signing the unattached England international.

Mullan, who has yet to recover from knee surgery which he underwent in May last year, is currently without a club after being released by Wasps last week.

Wasps director of rugby Dai Young has revealed off-the-field matters had “drained his motivation to play rugby or get back from his injury”.

But Warriors legend Tony Windo, who spoke to Mullan last week, said the 31-year-old was “training as hard as he ever has” and reckoned he would consider a return to Sixways.

Duncan stressed Solomons was in charge of Worcester’s recruitment and was unaware of any communication with Mullan.

“We have not had conversations around him as yet,” Duncan said.

“There might be people talking to Solly. I honestly don’t know.

“I am not too sure if they are speaking to Solly.

“Generally if they do he will come and have a conversation with me and that has certainly not taken place.”

Mullan made more than 100 appearances for Warriors after coming through the club’s academy but left to join Wasps in 2013.

The ex-Bromsgrove School student has also chalked up 17 caps for his country with his last outing coming against Argentina in 2017.

Asked whether he would consider welcoming Mullan on board, Duncan said: “I would obviously like to take a closer look at him and have a look at it but I do not want to talk out of turn.

“This is something that will go past Solly’s desk and then he will bring it to myself and we will have a conversation around it.”
