“THERE can be no lapses in concentration” — that’s the message from boss Alan Solomons to his players ahead of Worcester Warriors’ “massive” home match against Leicester Tigers tomorrow (1pm).

Solomons said his side’s inability to stay switched on for 80 minutes was coming at a “huge” cost as they remain second from bottom in the Gallagher Premiership.

A sloppy start at The Stoop last Saturday saw Warriors fall 21-0 behind to Harlequins inside the opening 20 minutes.

Worcester responded with five tries — four of them coming in the second half — but Quins ran out convincing 47-33 winners.

“Momentary lapses in concentration are costing us hugely,” Solomons said.

“If you go back to the game against Saracens as well we did the same.

“Even at the end of the match against Quins the defensive error which gave them the try when (Ben) Tapuai shot straight through should never have happened.

“If that had not been a try we would have got within seven points.”

The try bonus point lifted Warriors five points clear of bottom club Newcastle Falcons, who visit high-flying Exeter Chiefs today (2.30pm), and they now aim to complete a hat-trick of victories over ninth-placed Leicester.

Solomons’ men have beaten their Midlands rivals twice at Welford Road this season, winning 44-37 in the league in September and 31-12 in the Premiership Cup in November.

But Tigers have won their past nine meetings with Worcester at Sixways.

“There can be no lapses in concentration,” Solomons said.

“It’s little things that cost you games at a high level. You cannot gift teams points as they are too good.

“This is a hard, old competition and we have got to focus on it a game at a time.

“There are games which we should have played better in and should have won but that’s done and it is no good worrying about that.

“The milk has been spilled and we have got to get on with it.

“We have left a few points behind along the way but so have most clubs.

“We have just got to look forward.

“We have got a massive game against Leicester on the weekend and we need to play really well.”

Warriors will also look to get out of the traps quickly after their “horrid” opening seven minutes against Harlequins.

“We got off to the worst possible start,” Solomons said.

“In the opening minute we were 7-0 down and five or six minutes later we were 14-0 down so we are obviously looking for a much better beginning.

“Leicester will be physical. They have a really good scrum, lineout and maul and they will be pretty direct so it will be a tough game.”
