CENTRE Ben Te’o has been denied a final chance to impress England head coach Eddie Jones after being left out of the squad to tackle Wales on Sunday (2pm).

However, uncapped hooker Jack Singleton has been picked and will hope to boost his own hopes with a strong performance at Twickenham ahead of Jones’ World Cup selection on Monday.

The duo who left Worcester Warriors at the end of last season have been part of a 12-day training camp in Treviso, Italy.

Te’o who has yet to secure a new club for next season has been a key figure in Jones’ plans since arriving in England in 2016.

But the 32-year-old is a notable omission from the 33-man group to face Wales this weekend while full-back Mike Brown, forward Alex Dombrandt (both Harlequins) and scrum-half Ben Spencer (Saracens) also miss out.

Jones said: “We have worked hard and now move into a four-game preparation phase where the development of the team tactically is paramount.

“We are grateful for the strong opposition to test our game fitness.

“By the time we fly out on September 8 we will be ready to win the Rugby World Cup.

“We are not there yet, but we have four games to get ready.

“Players excluded from being involved in this camp are naturally disappointed but may get another opportunity so they must be ready.”

England take on Ireland at Twickenham Stadium on 24 August and Italy in Newcastle on September 6 as part of the Quilter Internationals as well as an away fixture against Wales in Cardiff on August 17.
