THE wait for a first run-out of the season is set to continue for injured lock Anton Bresler and ill back rower Matt Cox.

The two forwards did not play in Warriors’ opening two Premiership Cup matches and they are likely to miss out on Friday’s home clash with Exeter Chiefs (7.45pm).

But flanker Matti Williams, who also played no part in the victory over Leicester Tigers and defeat at Bath, is expected to be fit for the Exeter match.

Bresler injured his ankle in training last week while Cox has been struck down by an illness.

“I am hoping that Matti will be good to go this weekend,” said director of rugby Alan Solomons.

“But I will probably hold Bressie off. He is fine but just rolled his ankle.”

On Cox, Solomons added: “That’s just going to take a little bit longer.

“He’s had some problems that he has got to sort out. It’s nothing major. He’ll be fine. It’s an illness.”

Solomons is also set to assess the fitness of centre Francois Venter (calf) and scrum-half Jono Kitto (abductor), who have yet to feature this season, ahead of the Pool C leaders' meeting with Chiefs.

The Warriors boss said it was “vital” players got the chance to get game time before the Gallagher Premiership gets under way on Saturday, October 19.

“We are a fit side,” Solomons said.

“But you will never quite simulate match conditions for game fitness.”

On the 36-28 defeat at Bath, Solomons added: “The first 35 minutes weren’t great.

“Full marks to our opponents as they punished our mistakes and our ill-discipline.”
