WORCESTER Warriors slipped to the bottom of the Gallagher Premiership table after a comprehensive 29-10 defeat to Northampton Saints at Franklin's Gardens.

Saints scored two tries in each half as they earned their first Premiership win at home in 2020, whilst Warriors left with nothing after a dismal afternoon at the Garden's.

The defeat is the fifth consecutive loss in all competitions for the Warriors and leaves them rock bottom of the league as they go into the new year.

Warriors started on the backfoot as an early Dan Biggar penalty put the hosts 3-0 up before Melani Nanai was adjudged to have deliberately knocked the ball on as Saints were destined to score a try and he was sent to the bin by referee Christophe Ridley and the penalty try was awarded.

It was the worst start after 15 minutes but the visitors finally started to gain some field position and scored a try through Billy Searle after some brilliant footwork from wing Nick David in the build-up.

The lead was cut to three but the joy was short lived as Saints re-established their lead two minutes later when a loose clearance kick from Worcester was picked up by Ahsee Tuala, who ran through the midfield all too easily before setting up scrum-half Alex Mitchell for the try under the posts.

It could have been worse for Warriors just before the break had it not been for the TMO to rule out another Saints score but home side had a healthy 10-point advantage at half-time.

The second-half started better for the away side and Searle chipped a penalty through the posts on 49 minutes after Saints' Biggar was sent to the bin for killing a Worcester attack after a great line break by Justin Clegg.

But that was to be all Warriors would muster in terms of points and despite almost scoring through David again after an Ollie Lawrence break, Saints finished them off on 65 minutes when  man-of-the-match Biggar added a try of his own from close range.

A further score from Saints' replacement hooker Mikey Haywood added gloss to the scoreline as the hosts cruised home.

Alan Solomons' men have a short turnaround now before the New Year's Day clash with harlequins at Sixways.
