CO-OWNER Jason Whittingham has moved to scotch the “misconception” that Warriors do not spend up to the salary cap.
Worcester’s persistent battle to move out of the lower reaches of the Premiership has, at times, led to fans questioning whether the club makes full use of the £7million limit.
It is due to be reduced to £5million from next season in a move unanimously voted through by clubs last June but even amid the uncertainty of Covid-19, Whittingham reiterated his intention to honour the long-standing pledge made to fans over spending.
“Whatever people think about Worcester, we spend up to the salary cap,” he said.
“There is a misconception that we don’t.
"We do and we continue to do so, we are already committed to the majority of the squad now until the end of next season.
“At that point the salary cap comes down and by virtue of that we will be spending less as a club but that is only in line with every other club.
Premiership clubs released statements in September in an attempt to prompt financial help from government, which eventually came in the form of the Sports Winter Survival Package - producing £59 million for Premiership clubs.
Since the package arrived, Worcester have confirmed the signing of Scotland international and Edinburgh winger Duhan van der Merwe on what is being rumoured to be a large salary.
The departure of Duncan Weir and potentially Francois Hougaard will also see more funds become available so by all accounts, there is money to splash.
