TOWNSFOLK are being asked to participate in a Bromsgrove charity fun run, this year celebrating a milestone anniversary.

This year’s Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research fun run is being held at Bromsgrove Rugby Club in Finstall Park on Sunday, May 12.

It is the 25th year of the run, which has been organised annually by the town branch of the charity, led by its chairman Nicole Harris.

The Stoke Heath fund-raiser lost her son Marc to leukaemia in April 1989, and just six weeks after his death organised the first run.

As well as celebrating the milestone anniversary the branch is also closing in on a £1 million fund-raising target.

Nicole said: “Our branch has now raised in the region of £800,000.

“Our first run was at Barnsley Hall, then we moved to Parkside, and as the run was getting bigger we decided to move to the rugby club.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has contributed and helped us since we started.”

This year’s event includes the usual 10 kilometre race for serious runners, which starts at 11am, and the five kilometre for fun runners or children accompanied with an adult, which starts at 11.05am.

All entrants receive a fund-raising pack, a race number and finishing medal.

Runners who sign up and fund-raise in advance receive a t-shirt on the day.

Prizes will be given to runners finishing first, second and third and for veterans in both runs.

Prizes have been donated by Altered Images, which is entering a team.

The pre-booking entrance fee is £9, £8.50 for athletic association affiliated members.

People can pay £10 to enter on the day but will need to do so before 10.40am, when the registration period closes.

It advised to pre-book, as it is anticipated 400 runners will be taking part.

On the day will also be stalls, a BBQ, massages, a bar, and changing rooms.

All the money raised goes to the charity, which helps fund vital research to prevent, treat and cure cancer.

Anyone wanting to pre-book can do so by calling Nicole on 01527 878493 or email nicnoelharris@aol.com.
