POLICE and crime commissioner Bill Longmore's lung cancer operation took place today - with his office saying it was a success.
West Mercia Police's elected boss, who revealed he was battling the disease last week, is now recovering.
The independent PCC, who was elected as the first person to hold the post in 2012, first found out he had lung cancer during routine tests in November.
A statement issued in the last few minutes said: "Bill had his operation this morning and is now in recovery. He will undergo further tests over the next few days.
"A further announcement will be made next week."
At the moment deputy Barrie Sheldon has taken on his duties as acting police and crime commissioner. Mr Longmore hopes to return to work in March.
