A BROMSGROVE-based leisure centre has received a prestigious award at a ceremony.

The Ryland Centre in New Road was crowned the best health club and leisure centre in the West Midlands in the prestigious Health Club of the Year awards.

In its fourth year, the awards received 35,000 votes from club members who each rated their club on the quality of facilities, customer service and value for money.

Four hundred club entries came from a mixture of small independents, public leisure centres, hotel clubs and well-known industry brands.

The Ryland Centre was refurbished in 2012 to include a state-of- the-art gym and dance studio. The centre also offers a weekly fitness class programme as well as sports and activities.

The centre was named the winner at an awards presentation held at the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham, at the end of September.

Michelle Jones, Ryland Centre's general manager, said: “We are so excited to have won this award. The whole team works extremely hard to deliver a high standard of service and value for money. We would like to thank all of our customers for voting for us.”

Simon Brown, managing director of the awards, said: “We believe the best health clubs provide a balance in three key areas - range of facilities, customer service and value for money.

"The Member’s Choice Health Club Awards are designed to find out which clubs are excelling in these areas and recognising them for their efforts.

"We think there’s no better endorsement for a club than honest feedback from customers that are using the facilities.”
