A MANAGER from a Bromsgrove-based foster care agency has been nominated for a prestigious award.

Fostering service manager Kulvinder Kaur Sahota, from Foster Care Associates, (FCA), has been nominated for a prestigious Asia Women of Achievement Award.

Kulvinder has been nominated in recognition of her social and humanitarian work throughout her career and her fundraising achievements.

She is one of the finalists attending the awards ceremony being held in London in May.

Nominated in the social and humanitarian category, Kulvinder qualified as a social worker in 1994 and has raised thousands of pounds for many causes over the years.

She has also slept rough in winter to highlight homelessness, and recently climbed Kilimanjaro to raise funds for the Rees Foundation, which provides help for people with experience of care.

The Asian Women of Achievement Awards were conceived to celebrate the often unsung Asian heroines of British life.

Jan Rees, founder of the Rees Foundation who nominated Kulvinder for the award said: "Kulvinder is a very important supporter of the Rees Foundation and she has worked tirelessly to fundraise for us.

"She made the enormous commitment of joining our team to trek to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro and far exceeded her fundraising target.

"But it’s not just her success at raising funds; it is the way she does it - inspiring others and raising awareness for important causes along the way. During the Kilimanjaro trek, she was a supportive member of the group. Her excellent sense of humour and at times frank approach gave us all reason to smile, laugh and think carefully about the challenge we faced together.”
