GUESTS from the world of cycling gathered at an event celebrating the success of a triumphant fundraising cycling team led by a Barnt Green resident.
The Advertiser reported on Geoff Thomas' challenge, Le Tour - One Day Ahead, which saw a cycling team ride the entire Tour de France route over 23 days, raising money for Cure Leukaemia.
A celebration was held at Bromsgrove Sporting's Victoria Club welcoming back the successful cycling team which included Bromsgrove triathlete star Helen Russell.
The event was hosted by ITV4 commentator Ned Boutling who compered a question and answer session with Thomas who shared his experiences of the charity trip, his time as a professional footballer, and his battle with blood cancer.
Guests also bid for items donated by goalkeeper Ben Foster, Lance Armstrong and Olympian Jess Varnish.
More than 120 attended, with £3,000 collected put towards £650,000 raised through the charity challenge.
Helen said: "The evening was a great success and Geoff and I are really grateful to everyone who came along.
"The money raised will go towards funding clinical trials and research nurses at the QE Hospital, Birmingham.”
