THERE’S something of a mystery to be solved by local police in Bournheath, after they recovered an abandoned car, which was left balanced on its roof yesterday morning.

The car, a silver Peugeot 206, had flipped over completely in Yarnold Lane in Bournheath, coming to a rest upside down in the narrow lane, but the driver was nowhere to be seen.

Police responded to a call just after 8.15am on Tuesday, March 8, where they discovered the empty car. They don’t believe any other vehicles were involved in the incident.

Angela Mason was in the car following the Peugeot with her husband toward the Nailors Arms in Bournheath when the incident happened.

She said: "As we turned into Yarnolds Lane he was stopped in the middle of the road. He took off and he was hitting the sides, he was hitting the bushes. I was just about to phone the police, because I said to my husband 'if someone come the other way the he's going to hit them', then he hit a grass bank and just flipped over. We had to stop really quickly.

"One side was up against the grass and the other side the door wouldn't open. My husband opened the boot for him, and I said he had to wait because the police were coming, and he just said 'no' and he just took off down the lane.

"I'd bought my husband a camera for his car and he hadn't fitted it yet, but that would have been good."

The man was last seen walking in the direction he'd just come from.

Mrs Mason gave a full description of the man to the police at the scene, but he is yet to be identified.

If anyone has any information about the incident, or the whereabouts of the driver, they should contact West Mercia Police on the non-emergency number 101 quoting incident no. 77s of March 8th.
