THE heartbroken family of a Bromsgrove cyclist who was killed in a crash with a lorry have described him as "one in a million".

Michael Thompson, aged 65, died when his bike collided with a white DAF lorry on March 31.

The crash happened at around 8.45am, when Mr Thompson was cycling to work along Hanbury Road in the direction of Stoke Prior.

Police, ambulance crews and a paramedic officer attended but Mr Thompson was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Mr Thompson's family said: "Michael Thompson, was tragically taken away from us on 31st March 2016, a husband, a dad, a grandad and a best friend.

"Michael, more popularly known as Mick, was devoted to his family, his wife of 39 years Angela and his children Kerry, Carl, Donna and Vicky.

"He loved work, yes work. Even at retirement age, he wouldn't give it up and continued to cycle that same route as he had done for 40 years to work at L.G. Harris & Co.

"Unfortunately, on that day, he was taken from us prematurely whilst riding his bike, which he so loved to do.

"Mick worked hard all of his life to give us all the very best he could but didn't even get a chance to say goodbye.

"He was a funny and caring man. He loved to chat and was a great listener, having time for everyone he met. He always saw the best in people. He was a popular man, loved by all and touched the lives of everyone who met him.

"We are all heartbroken and our lives will never be the same without him.

"Losing our dad and our best friend is unbearable, but what will keep us going are the treasured memories that we have. Everyone's special words make us proud that he is our dad. He is a rare diamond, a one in a million.

"He never came home that day, and now he never will but the home he gave us will live on. He was taken from us too quickly and has left a hole that can never be replaced. He will be so desperately missed by us all.

"My dad. My hero."

Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact them on 101 quoting reference number 110S.
