A VARIETY of apple tree which was named by members of Catshill Middle School’s gardening club as part of the 2012 Paralympics, has been brought back to the school.

The club won the right to name a variety of apple to represent the legacy of the 2012 Paralympic games, and chose the name ‘Paradise Gold’.

The apple trees now grow in the new area of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park called Mandeville Place, but Catshill Middle School has been given three of the trees to grow in their own school garden.

Seven pupils from the school’s gardening club chose the name ‘Paradise Gold’ to represent the Paralympics, including the first letter of each of the words used to show Paralympic values; Determination, Inspiration, Courage and Equality, with the word ‘gold’ added to represent the gold medal.

A spokesperson for Catshill Middle School, said: “The pupils whose talent won the competition, planted the trees with the assistance of Oakland garden services. The school are very proud of the pupil’s hard work and their superb talents that contributed to the growing of these beautiful trees.”
