BROMSGROVE stroke victims are being encouraged to get back behind the steering wheel by attending a special event being staged at the Regional Driving Assessment Centre next Monday, July 18.

Anyone affected by a stroke who wants to resume driving again is invited to attend and discuss their issues with qualified occupational therapists.

The event takes place at the Life After Stroke Centre in Church Lane where visitors will also be able to to look at a vehicle fitted with various adaptations.

Anita Bennett who is an occupational therapist with the Regional Driving Assessment team confirmed: "Last year we provided more than 400 people with advice, adaptations and passenger assessments following a stroke.

"We'd invite anyone affected by a stroke to come and chat with the team and see how the stroke may have affected the ability to drive and the procedures that should be followed."

Christy Weatherby, who is the Life After Stroke Centre co-ordinator added: "After a stroke, your ability to drive safely can be affected in various ways.

"You may have physical or visual problems. There might be difficulty concentrating for long periods of time or making quick decisions."
